SUBSTRATE QUALITY

SYSTEM DESIGN

When designing the waterproofing system, make sure that the supporting structure has sufficient structural strength to support all new and existing layers of the system build-up. New concrete substrates must be at least 3 days old.

SUBSTRATE CONDITION

The substrate surface must be uniform, firm, smooth and free of any sharp protrusion or burrs, clean, dry, free of grease, laitance, oil, dust and loosely adhering particles.

MIXING

IMPORTANT

Over addition of water

Do not add more than prescribed water to the powder. Over addition affects the product’s finished mechanical performance.

1. Pour the minimum amount of water into a suitable clean mixing container.
2. While mixing gradually add the powder.
3. Mix continuously for at least 3 minutes to achieve a uniform mix. If necessary, add more water up to the maximum amount to achieve the required consistency.
4. Leave to stand for 1 minute.
5. Mix for a further 1 minute.

Note: If mix has thickened due to delayed application, DO NOT dilute further with water. This should be discarded.

APPLICATION

1. Saturate the substrate with clean water.
2. Apply the mixed Product onto the substrate evenly using a 4–5 mm notched trowel.
3. Immediately apply the SikaShield® W bituminous membrane while the adhesive is still wet.

Note: Allow for minimum 24 h curing (at +25 °C) of the SikaShield® W1 IN prior to backfilling the installed SikaShield® W waterproofing membrane.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
